Transit & Green Line

Current Status:

  • Transit is not meeting the needs of many Ward 3 residents, particularly for those in new communities including Livingston and Carrington, and people traveling east-west.
  • The first leg of the Green Line LRT is going south despite very high ridership in the north.

How I Will Take Action:

  • I will strongly advocate for the Green Line to go north.
  • I will explore the feasibility of express routes to key destinations outside of the downtown core.
  • I will ensure the Bus Rapid Transit project up Centre Street is designed in consultation with Ward 3 residents and improves their transit experience.

Road Safety

Current Status:

  • Ward 3 has serious walkability issues. We have disconnected neighbourhoods, pathways that end abruptly and many shops are difficult to reach by foot.
  • There are significant speeding issues on main drives (e.g. Panorama Hills Dr., Coventry Blvd etc.), poorly marked crosswalks and lighting issues throughout the ward.

How I Will Take Action:

  • I will support road design that makes Ward 3 safer for pedestrians and families including addressing roadways with particular speeding issues (e.g., school zones going from 30 km to 50 km back to 30 km).
  • I will ensure high pedestrian areas are outfitted with proper crosswalks (e.g., rapid flashing beacons).

Public Engagement

Current Status:

  • The public engagement process is broken: feedback elicited from surveys do not adequately capture the nuance of citizen concerns, and citizens have only five minutes to speak about complex topics at council meetings.
  • Council often votes to approve a project immediately after consultation, which leaves citizens feeling their feedback never mattered.

How I Will Take Action:

  • I will strive to make engagement more proactive and iterative, meaning actively reaching out to residents, businesses and other stakeholders early and often.
  • I will examine survey design to ensure they do not lead to biased results.
  • There needs to be more time between public hearings and council’s final decision so valuable community feedback can actually be implemented.
